I’ve been traveling a bit lately, but this week is a little crazy, two trips to two places, and so I’m more out of touch. You get a re-run of Evergreen SQL Server, which is a fun one to re-read. The idea of upgraded database software is something that is more common these days than in 2019.

Republish: Upgrading Your OS
Two Fridays in a row. Last week I was in Dallas at a volleyball tournament. Today I’m flying all day, returning from the UK. It’s the Easter holiday there, and some of you might be taking off today as well.
Hopefully it’s a smooth journey for me, but you get to re-read Upgrading Your OS, which is an interesting one for me to look back on. I’m still on W10 on my desktop, but Microsoft is again pushing an upgrade, this time to Windows 11.
I didn’t love the upgrade on my previous laptop, but the new one I got late last year seems OK. Some weird things with W11 have me hesitating to upgrade the desktop, but I’m torn. I certainly don’t want to get away from security updates.

Republish: The Changing Nature of Data
Today I’m in Dallas, coaching 14 year olds in a volleyball tournament. This is our last travel trip with the team, and this is day 1. Hopefully we get a good draw and have some success.
While I’m wearing earplugs in a large convention center with 1,000 screaming teenage girls, you get to re-read The Changing Nature of Data.

Editorial Republish: The SQL Twilight Zone
Once again, I’m not home. This time it’s vacation, well, working vacation. I’m in New Orleans to coach a volleyball team at a tournament this weekend. Hopefully I’m not too jet-lagged after my week of Denver-London-Denver-New Orleans travel.
In any case, I thought it appropriate to republish the SQL Twilight Zone. If SQL Server goes away, I’ll pick any other platform. Snowflake sounds interesting now, but Oracle, PosrgreSQL, I’m not particular. I like working with data and helping others do the same.
