  • Recharging Again

    I’m off again, taking a week in Steamboat Springs with my family for the Christmas holiday. We’re spending a week up there, including my oldest son who came back from Seattle to see us.

    It seems like I’ve been gone a lot, with guest editorials and re-publishing old pieces in 2012. That’s good as it means I’m taking most of my vacation. At least I think so. When I look back I see:

    • a few days with my wife in the spring
    • a couple days to work around the house on projects
    • four days for camping
    • seven days of skiing around the holidays
    • four ski days in the spring
    • two other ski days this fall

    That’s not quite all my vacation, but it’s close.

    I wanted to get through all my vacation this year, and really make sure I took time away from work. It’s easy to get sucked into work, especially when you work at home and work on a flexible schedule. However I truly believe that getting away from work and spending time enjoying the rest of your life.

    If you haven’t taken your vacation this year, make that a goal for next year.

  • Refreshing

    DadDelaney_ski_Mar2012I hope everyone has a great week this week. I’m off, trying to recharge and refresh after a rough speaking schedule this fall.

    My family has a tradition of spending Thanksgiving up in the mountains skiing. There isn’t a lot of snow, but I look forward to skiing, dominos, ping pong, and more with my wife and kids.

    You should be sure that you take a break periodically from work and make sure you refresh and recharge. All too often I see people skipping vacation, which isn’t good your mental health.

  • Holiday

    Taking some of my own advice. I’m off today and tomorrow, as well as Monday for Labor Day. Across this 5 day weekend, I have a number of chores to tackle, including trying to build another horse shelter before winter.

    However I will look to recharge and relax a bit. No baseball, no kids sports, just a family weekend on the ranch.

  • Holiday

    Sort of.

    I’m off for a week to Camp Alexander near Pikes Peak for Boy Scout summer camp. My 13year old is attending and working his way toward Eagle Scout. He’s a Star scout now, and with any luck, this week we’ll get 3 more of the Eagle required merit badges and be that much closer to that amazing achievement.

    There’s no cell service, and no real Internet, so I’ll be completely out of touch for a week.
