Well, not really a vacation, but limited posts this week. I’m off to Florida for a week of coaching at the AAU National Junior Volleyball Championships. I’ve been coaching this team with my wife since August. Normally we go Nov-Apr.
I’m ready for a break, and this should at least be a fun trip.

I’m taking a vacation. A real, honest, get away from home without commitments vacation.
And to a new place!
I’m heading to Key West today, a place I’ve never been. I wanted to go earlier this year, but other things got in the way. However, a friend in FL was heading down for a break and we decided to join them. My sister-in-law heard, and she’s meeting us as well.
It’s almost a week in the sun, though I will need to work a couple days. I’ll take today off to travel and tomorrow to lay in the sun, but for a few days next week I’ll still be in FL and working.
Looking forward to a little writing while I’m staring out at the ocean.
I’m gone for the next three days, heading to Crested Butte, CO to ski. I enjoy skiing and this is the time of year I try to use vacation and get out with my wife.
We’ve been missing travel, and missing skiing. Some of our efforts recently haven’t gone great, though our place is Keystone is starting to get rentals. That’s a good sign. Since using our place would reduce our revenue, we decided to try a new place and just book lodging.
We’ve never been to Crested Butte. When I checked lift ticket reservations, they were available, and there was a lodging sale. So we decided to book a few days up there.
I spent most of my work as a bit of a workaholic. Not that I worked too many crazy hours or spent all my time at work, because I didn’t. I had some rough stretches, but I’ve mostly worked 45-50 hours a week for the majority of my career, in all positions.
However, I struggled to take vacation. In fact, I rarely took more than a few days. Even now, after about 4 days I’m usually ready to go back to work. I am trying to do better, but it’s hard. Or maybe it’s a sign I have a great job and love what I do.
In any case, I’m trying to be better in a different way. My family enjoys winter, and while travel is restricted in a variety of ways, we do have season passes for the Colorado mountains and a place up there. We usually rent it out, but there haven’t been any since last year. That might start changing, but for the time being, we’ve tried to take advantage of the space.
We took a couple trips up there in December, and one a couple weeks ago. We’re back up this week for a few more days, and I’ve even lent it out to my nephew in a few weeks (though I may come up for a day). No long trips, but I’m trying to take them regularly and get away.
