Prime Day Recommendations

It’s Prime Day. A few of my recommendations, since I want to do some shopping myself (yes, these are commissioned referrals). These are things I’ve ordered and used this year. It’s a random list, but maybe you’ll have fun with something here.

Reshuffle https://amzn.to/44qe1xz

A great book to get you to think about things changing in the AI world. I’m about 70% through and keep stopping to think.

Trademaster work gloveshttps://amzn.to/4uUIU8h

I keep losing the right ones (or the dog takes them), but I’ve gotten 4-5 pairs over the years.

Cuppa muchroom coffeehttps://amzn.to/44r1Hx2

Tastes a little funny to me, but my wife loves it and says it gives her energy. I’m skeptical, but I’ve used it.

Magsafe Phone holder for travelhttps://amzn.to/4ezAe0Q

I got this on a lark, but I’ve really enjoyed this on planes and even places where I can clip it to a table. It holds really well with a magnetic case.

Charmast power bank with cableshttps://amzn.to/4fWzsxk

We have 3 of these. I’ve tried a few others, but this has been a bargain and reliable. Charges quickly, don’t have to hunt for cables, and it’s survived many trips. I have 2 because I leave one in my personal carry on and one in the work bag. My wife grabbed one as well.

We Are Legion https://amzn.to/4aRJNHp

I grabbed this for free on Kindle Unlimited to try and loved it. I read all 5 (2, 3, 4, 5). It’s a software guy killed in a hit and run, awakened in the future as he’s uploaded into hardware to be the “AI” for a probe searching the galaxy for places to populate. It’s a fun, wild ride.

Wrangler Jeans – https://amzn.to/4oGXIpk

With a flex waistband, which is nice as I age and travel, but I’ve liked these and my wife likes the way they look. I’ll get another pair today.

  1. Amend to the Wranglers. Not only are the acceptable but a lot cheaper then the more in fashion brands I thought I had to get when younger. A pair of Levi’s today is around $100 and not even worth it these days IMHO.

  2. “In Reshuffle, Sangeet Paul Choudary reframes one of the most hyped technologies of our time not as a smarter brain, but as a better glue.”I’ve heard similar positive takes on AI but their all wrong including Elon b/c they mistake humanity as projected in fiction as how it is in reality. Unless there’s some global level event or massive encroachment and control over all AI by government here is how this will play out. REMINDER: Musk is building these AI robots so they can go to mars and prepare what humans would need to live there so there’s NOT going to be any safe jobs in the trades as many speculate. 1) B/C they can’t help themselves every single corporate executive at every business in every industry that a sales person for one of these AI companies is willing to lie/embellish to and say “Yes our product can do that humans job” they will replace every last human employee with AI. It won’t be immediate or necessarily fast but quickly b/c it will become a race to the bottom. 2) As fewer and fewer are working, dependence on government welfare will increase and far beyond what it can even print to cover. In response the government will introduce UBI b/c their wealthy business campaign donors want them to do whatever is necessary so they can continue with replacing all humans with these AI bots. Once people have no jobs but income we are not going to be this next age of resonance as some think. A few will peruse the arts and hobbies but most will be idle hands seeking something to do and not always for the better. 3) All existing forms of entertainment will be run thru within a few years and more and more extreme sources of entertainment will be created to keep the mobs happy under a modern day bread & circus. You can bet this is when we’ll start seeing games where lives are really on the line, They may be filmed outside of the US for legal reasons but they will come to pass. 4) Eventually society will collapse b/c humans can’t exist long term without what a job provides, a purpose, a reason for being, an anchor to ones day/week. Humans are not made to be waited on hand and foot but to work and create and these AI powered bots are going to destroy that b/c the executives in charge will believe lies about AI b/c they want to and b/c they will be unable to resist the urge of the next quarter or 2’s profit margin; they won’t think twice about years down the road. What is NEVER going to happen that Musk has tried to predict is this post Currency Star Trek like universe. Never going to happen. For 1 it is impossible to actually make things so cheap that they are effectively free. At the bare minimum will be the energy costs to run these robots and the cost of materials to produce products. Even f all companies were %100 solar powered so there was no energy costs there’s still maintenance and supply costs unless you believe every place with something another wants is really going to just give it away for free. There’s only 1 way forward with these things that doesn’t destroy us and that is by making it more costly for companies to replace humans then to pair one up which one of these and use it like a tool that helps the human do more in less time just as all new tools so far have done for humans. I do NOT like the idea of government having that kind of power but corporate greed and short sightedness will make it necessary.
